Festival season checklist for Chennai: tailoring, mehendi, catering and more
From Golu and Deepavali to Karthigai and Pongal, festival season in Chennai is busy. So are the people who make it special. Tailors, mehendi artists and home caterers get booked weeks in advance. Here is a simple checklist to get the help you need, on the days you need it.
1.Start three weeks early
Make a list of what you need. Then book the busiest services first:
- Tailoring — new blouses, and alterations for festival clothes.
- Mehendi — the evening before the festival gets booked first.
- Catering, sweets and snacks — big orders need time to plan.
- Deep cleaning — the week before the festival is always the busiest.
- Rangoli and kolam artists, decorators and photographers for family functions.
2.Check the dates on the listing
Every listing on Brouz has a calendar that shows the days the provider is free. Choose a free day. If the day you want is not free, ask the provider in chat — they may be able to open it for you.
3.Ask before you book
Tap Enquire on the listing in the app. It is free, and you don’t have to book. Good questions for festival orders:
- Can you show me photos of similar work you have done?
- What is included — do you bring the cones, colours or materials?
- How long will it take, and what time will you come?
- For food: what is the smallest and largest order you take?
4.For food, look for the FSSAI number
By law, anyone who sells food needs an FSSAI registration. On Brouz, a food seller’s FSSAI number is shown on their listing after Brouz checks it. Look for it before you place a big order.
Also check the smallest and largest quantity the cook takes, and whether they deliver to your area.
5.Plan home visits
If a provider comes to your home — for mehendi, cleaning or cooking — the listing says Comes to you. The delivery charge depends on how far they travel. Your address goes to the provider only if you choose delivery while booking.
6.Read the cancellation terms
Plans change during festival time. Every listing shows its cancellation terms before you book. If you cancel before the provider starts work, you always get the full order amount back. But once the cooking or stitching has started, the provider’s terms apply.
7.Pay in the app, and confirm when it is done
Pay in the Brouz app, not in cash. Brouz holds your money until you confirm the work is done. If something goes wrong, you have 3 days to raise a problem.
“Book early, ask first, pay in the app. Then enjoy the festival.”

Festival questions
How early should I book for Deepavali?
About three weeks before. Tailors and mehendi artists get booked first, so book them early. Big catering orders also need time.
Can the provider come to my home?
Yes, if the listing says “Comes to you”. You see the delivery charge for your address before you book.
What if the provider’s calendar has no free days?
Ask in chat with Enquire. The provider may be able to open a day for you. Or look at other providers near you.
