Finding a good home tutor near you: 8 questions to ask first

A good tutor can change how a child feels about a subject. The wrong tutor can waste months. A few simple questions before you book tell you most of what you need to know. On Brouz, you can ask them without paying anything.
Start with the listing
Every tutor on Brouz has a listing that starts with “I can…”. Read it carefully: which classes, subjects and boards they teach, and where the classes happen. Then look at:
- Reviews. Only parents and students who booked and finished classes on Brouz can write one.
- Qualifications. Some tutors add their certificates. Brouz checks each one before it is shown.
- Comes to you. The tutor can come to your home, for the delivery charge shown.
- The calendar. It shows the days the tutor is free to start.
Then tap Enquire in the app and ask the questions below. It is free, and you don’t have to book.
Eight questions to ask
- Which classes, subjects and boards do you teach? CBSE, ICSE and State Board can teach the same subject quite differently.
- Where will the classes happen — at your place or ours? If the tutor comes to you, check the delivery charge for your address.
- How many students are in one class? One-to-one and small groups suit different children.
- Which days and times, and how long is each class? Make sure it fits around school, travel and other classes.
- How will you tell us how our child is doing? Short tests, a notebook, a weekly message in the chat — any regular update is a good sign.
- What is included in the fee? Notes, worksheets, practice papers or exam revision.
- Can we start with one class? One class is the easiest way to see if your child is comfortable with the tutor.
- What happens if a class is missed? Read the cancellation terms on the listing, and ask how missed classes are made up.
How tutors charge on Brouz
Tutors set their own price. Most charge per hour or per class. Some charge one price for a month or for a set number of classes. The listing shows which, and the app shows the total before you pay.
Some tutors who charge per class choose pro-rata cancellation. If you stop after 6 of 20 classes, you get back the money for the 14 classes not taught yet. The tutor marks each class done in the app, so you can always see the count.
Keeping classes safe
- For the first few classes at home, make sure an adult is at home.
- Keep messages with the tutor in the Brouz chat. Phone numbers are hidden there, and the Brouz team reads this chat if there is ever a problem.
- Pay only in the app. Never pay an advance in cash or to someone’s UPI.
- Ask your child how the classes are going — and listen.
If something feels wrong, you can cancel, report the chat, or raise a problem from the order within 3 days of the work being marked done. How Brouz keeps your money safe explains what happens next.
In short
- Read the listing, reviews and qualifications first.
- Ask your questions with Enquire — it is free.
- Start with one class if you can.
- Keep the chat and payment in the app.
Questions parents ask
Can I talk to the tutor before booking?
Yes. Tap Enquire on the listing in the app and ask anything. It is free, and you don’t have to book.
Can the tutor come to our home?
Yes, if the listing says “Comes to you”. You pay the delivery charge shown for your address.
Does Brouz check tutors?
Brouz checks every provider’s PAN, and checks certificates before they are shown. Brouz does not do police checks — so meet the tutor first, and keep an adult at home for the first few classes.
What if the tutor doesn’t come?
If the tutor never starts, the order is cancelled for you and you get the full order amount back. If classes were missed after it started, raise a problem from the order and the Brouz team will look into it.
